Whenever I’m craving something cozy and a little sweet, this homemade mocha is my go-to. 

It’s super easy to make, it tastes like a coffee shop treat, and the best part? It’s made with simple, wholesome ingredients you probably already have at home.

If you’re looking for hot chocolate ideas that feel a little extra special but still super simple, this one’s for you. 

You can tweak it to fit your taste. Add more chocolate, keep it dairy-free, go sugar-free, or add some coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk you like)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (or stevia, if you prefer)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips ( optional)
  • Optional toppings: Whipped cream, cocoa powder, chocolate sauce, or chocolate chips

Step-by-Step Mocha Recipe

  1. Pour the almond milk into a small saucepan and add the maple syrup. Heat it over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until everything is mixed together.

  1. Add the cocoa powder and continue stirring until it has dissolved. You don’t want it to boil. Just get it nice and hot.

  1. If you’re using chocolate chips, toss them in now and whisk until they melt and blend in smoothly.

  1. Once it’s all warm and creamy, stir in the vanilla extract. It adds a little something extra to the flavor.

  • Make It Iced. Let your mocha cool a bit, then pour it over ice for a refreshing twist. You can even blend it for a frosty treat.
  • To add some coffee flavor, add a shot of espresso or some strong brewed coffee to turn it into a true café-style mocha.
  • To make it vegan, use oat or coconut milk, stevia, or monk fruit. So easy to adjust!
